I'm Paul Donovan, but then I guess you know that already.
I'm Canadian, and that's a very important part about who I am, also in the work that I do.
I'm originally from eastern Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick -- then Ontario for High school. I was introduced from grade 1 to French and in grade 4 I had a year of immersion French. In high school I took three years of Spanish. My first chance to use Spanish was in a trip to Mexico City in 1977.
I had a great opportunity live and work in Haiti for almost 7 years, right out of high school. First as a type of missionary, then managing a factory. Two different perspectives of a third world culture. Picked up a new language along the way.
Then returned to Canada to go to university and gained my Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1989.
After university I had another great opportunity to live and work in Japan, and pick up another language. I was on the JET Programme for three years, and then independent English teacher for two more years.
I now live in Metro Vancouver in British Columbia.
Since 2009 I've spent a lot of time in the Philippines as I explored another culture. Alas I didn't acquire a new language
